Amadeus Consulting was honored recently for its ethical business practices at an award event hosted by the Colorado Ethics in Business Alliance (CEBA). The award focuses on successful businesses that demonstrate a proven track record of ethical conduct, socially responsible business practices and a commitment to sustainability.
Amadeus Consulting, a Boulder custom software and application developer, was selected from among over 500 candidates as an honoree. In addition to Amadeus Consulting, eleven other businesses also were honored at the event. Although Amadeus Consulting did not take away the top prize, the company was honored to have been included among such a prestigious crowd.
"There are a lot of really good people out there, doing really good work," said Jay Millard, Vice President of Business Development at Amadeus Consulting. "You rarely hear about many of the wonderful things that these people are doing, and so it is great to be together all in one place and see how we, as business leaders, can make a difference for Colorado."
The award involved a lengthy interview and application process that included in-depth interviews by students from Denver University's Daniels College of Business. The students then submitted a report on the company's ethics practices to the selection committee, which chooses a winner.
The awards were presented at the Sheraton Downtown, in Denver, and featured a keynote speech by Mayor Hickenlooper highlighting the importance of ethics in business as well as highlighting the winners and honorees.
John Basso, CIO and the director of Amadeus Consulting's sustainability practices, noted that the recognition was in part due to the company's determination to abide by its guiding principles. "In our 15-year history we have always tried to stay true to our guiding principles which continually help us not only with ethical considerations, but also our social and sustainable business practices. It is very exciting to be recognized among our peer set," Basso said.
Part of what makes Amadeus Consulting unique is a mantra that can be often be heard in the halls of its offices: Did we create a win? As Jay Millard explains, to "create a win" is the perspective that encapsulates Amadeus Consulting's community efforts. "A win is defined as delivering innovative technology solutions, doing what we say, making sure our principles are upheld, and can only happen when clients, employees, Amadeus Consulting and the broader community are taken into account. You will hear us ask the questions: What is a win for our clients? What is a win for this meeting? What is a win for an Amadeus Consulting employee? What is a win for today? A win is solving a technical hurdle. A win is hiring the right person for the right job. It includes having fun along the way. We know we aren't going to win every time, but we sure are going to try."
In addition to developing custom software and technology solutions, Amadeus Consulting also runs a non-profit organization called BLAST! (Business Leaders in Action for Sustainability Today). BLAST! is a community based program that trains local business leaders tangible, simple and technical ways to integrate sustainability into their offices. Many businesses from Colorado and around the country have taken the free training and learned how to implement practices that save money and promote sustainability.
