Amadeus Consulting, a custom software development company recently acquired a developer edition of the Microsoft Surface- a multi-touch, multiuser interface - to aid in the design and development of custom multi-touch software. The new developer edition of the Microsoft Surface will aid Amadeus Consulting in designing custom enterprise level software and applications for multi-touch and multi-user interfaces. Amadeus Consulting will spend the next few months developing its own custom applications that will showcase its work and give the developers time to see what really makes good applications stand out.
"We're starting it as an internal idea competition to see what we develop first," said John Basso, the Chief Information Officer at Amadeus Consulting. "However, we are finding that everyone is so excited about their ideas that they have already started developing them on their own time. It will be exciting to see what everyone comes up with."
Microsoft Surface is a display that responds to natural hand gestures and real world objects. It allows multiple users to manipulate the display and accepts up to 52 touches at once. Disneyland, Las Vegas Hotels and Casinos, AT&T, and many others are using Microsoft Surface to interact with their customers and provide an innovative way to put information directly into the hands of their customers.
By using Surface and custom applications, client engagement becomes much more natural and less impeded by technology. It means that customer service agents can engage their clients' side-by-side. It also means sales presentations do not have to follow the standard presentation and pitch procedure. Instead, potential clients can relax comfortably on a couch and interact with an otherwise intangible product as the sales agent provides additional information and incentives. It is the perfect medium for engaging and serving clients.
For example, a custom application could let dealerships visually break apart cars and highlight extra features, optional upgrades, and financing options by using only a few simple hand gestures. Another application could let time-share salesmen manipulate a digital globe to help clients find properties, and then instantly pull up videos and information on the properties and nearby tourists attractions. Or an application could let financial advisors could pull up client portfolios and expand each one to show forecasts, performance, and in-depth information.
The possibilities are endless, but they all take advantage of the Natural User Interface (NUI) design of Surface, which allows users to control everything using simple and intuitive finger gestures.
"Multi-touch is the future of user interfaces," said Joseph Klida, vice president at Amadeus Consulting. "It is a more natural way to interact with technology. However it is still an emerging technology and not many companies offering multi-touch development and custom applications for Microsoft Surface, and that is something we are uniquely qualified to do."
Using their experience creating flawless programming and crystal clean user interfaces, Amadeus Consulting is able to offer development of multi-touch applications that are very accessible and intuitive, even to users unfamiliar with computers.
