Hematech, Inc. was founded in 1998 and parent company Kyowa Hakko Kirin Company, Ltd. purchased Hematech in 2005. With its corporate headquarters in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Hematech has several research and development projects: Epigenetics and Embryo Development, Molecular Genetics, Cell Culture and Embryo Cloning, Product Discovery and Immunology, Animal Health and Management, and Purification Process Development. Its research programs are best known for their successes in producing the first transchromosomic and gene targeted cattle that produce human antibodies for use as human pharmaceuticals. Hematech strives to treat diseases by developing these human polyclonal antibody drugs.
Hematech came to Amadeus Consulting for assistance with its Animal Information Management System (AIMS). The AIMS system tracks the lifecycle of a genetically engineered cow. It reports the detail of each cow's daily activities, including what shots it was given and when, and what it eats.
Hematech approached Amadeus Consulting to revise the existing software application, fix problems associated with the development at the original developer and upgrade the reporting applications. The application showed huge inconsistencies in the code as a result of not having a dedicated development team at the previous developer. Hematech wanted to utilize our business model of a dedicated team of developers so the relationship had some consistency.
Amadeus Consulting tackled the challenge by thoroughly reviewing the initial code, and concluded that a full rewrite of the reporting software and a revamp of the rest of the application would be necessary in order to exceed Hematech's expectations. We also updated the look and feel of the application.
Amadeus Consulting used Microsoft Reporting Services, as well as VB.NET at the request of the client, to write the reporting software and revamp the application. The result was a working system and a consistent, communicative relationship between the parties. The application was successfully deployed in May 2008.
