Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device browser plug-in built by Microsoft and designed for building rich Internet applications within a Web browser. As of October 2008 Version 2 was in Beta 2. Version 1 is currently available.

Chrome is a free, almost open-source browser developed by Google. Its source code has two versions: on that Google will maintain and a copy that Google has published. It was developed with the idea that less is more. Chrome is simple, straight-forward and fast.

Businesses can subscribe to specific applications in "the cloud" (such as email) but there is growing momentum to provide raw processing and storage capability so that any application can run remotely without typical constraints. Cloud computing allows for code and storage to exist on the Internet ("the cloud") as a service on a series of devices which can support infrastructure and business tools.
